Words of Life

I was meeting with a group of girls this week, which turned out to be  great time.  In that time, the topic of eating disorders came up, and a girl started saying how she has struggled with it for years and years.  She went on to discuss how shes overcoming that amongst other things, which are truly remarkable…but what she said has been on my heart since. “Every time I want to throw up, I have to look in the mirror and tell myself that I am beautiful.”  Another girl chimed in with tears in her eyes:  “Tell yourself every time that Jesus thinks you’re beautiful, and that you are a child of God, made perfectly and wonderfully in his eyes…”

I began thinking about how for so long I’ve heard about the power that words have.  But most of the time, that brings up topics such as encouraging other people, and speaking positive things to the people around you.  Lately it’s hit me so hard the power we hold by the words that we speak over our own lives.  We need to begin speaking life to whatever situation we are going through, if we want to conquer it.  It might be difficult for this girl to believe she’s beautiful at first, but after telling herself over and over the good things about her and the thoughts God has of her, eventually she’s going to believe it, and know it’s true.  The more we begin to speak strength over our weaknesses, success over our failures, healing over our sickness, whatever the situation may be…speak life over it, and believe that God can change things….you’ll see amazing things begin to happen.

  1. great post Lindsey… Great

  2. words just flow out of us but if we can direct them for healing we can see miracles in ourselves and in others. speak some positive things to someone and watch as they respond,(it’s really cool) the same will work on our own situations.

  3. words have such a HUGE effect on people…awesome : )
